Ipad 2 Usb Port

eReader? Android Tablet? iPad 2?

Ultimately I’m wanting an ereader. People I have asked have suggested spending the extra money and buy an iPad, but I dont really want or need one as I have an iPhone and a laptop already.

I’ve never even heard of android tablets until a few days ago when I began doing some research into eReaders.

So what is better and why? I would like the following features on the eReader:
- 2-4mb internal memory
- 6+ inch screen
- USB port
- as many formats as possible, esp PDF, word
- touch or e Ink, not really fussed
- wifi

**Must be compatible for use in Australia**

I have an iPad and a Kindle 3. If you are only interested in the functionality of an eReader then an iPad really isn’t going to work- IMO it is too heavy and large to be truly effective as an eReader, I got the iPad for my photographic work and it’s brilliant for that but as an eReader- not so great, too heavy to comfortably hold and read from for too long, not quite small enough to be any more portable than an ordinary small laptop, USB connectivity still requires a seperate adapter for the iPad/2 and I find reading off a backlit display for long periods quite tiring. So unless you require all the extra functionality that the iPad has, it is not what I would consider an ideal choice for the sole purpose of an eReader. My Kindle, on the other hand lives in my handbag, it’s small and light enough that it is my constant companion and goes with me everywhere- it’s about the same dimensions as a slimline DVD case and about as heavy as a thin book of that size. The file formats it supports are limited to mainly mobi, azw (amazon), pdf and txt files so eBooks in other formats have to be converted to one of these using programs like Calibre ( http://calibre-ebook.com/ ), but I don’t often need to do that because I have mostly found the books I want at the Amazon kindle store, the (yes I’m Australian) store’s collection is extensive enough. In short I looove my Kindle!
The other eReader that I would recommend you take a look at, as it seems to be an ideal fit for what you require (except no wifi I believe), is one the Sony Readers- http://ebookstore.sony.com/reader/
These Sony eReaders support a wider range of file formats and one of the models has an e-ink touch display- although I have noticed that it is lower in contrast than the non-touch devices.
